Erima Lucy Upah
Ms. Lucy Erima Upah was the Regional Coordinator (English-speaking countries) for the World Federation of the Deaf-managed “Deaf Human Rights and Capacity Building Training Project for Western and Central Africa Region (WCAR Project)” from 2009 to 2011. This project aimed to educate Deaf communities about the rights available to them through the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), and strategies they could use to advocate for their communities. The outcome of the WCAR Project led to the establishment of the WCAR Secretariat, a platform for Deaf associations in the region to come together to chart the course of advocacy for better living standards devoid of barriers for the deaf communities. In 2013, Ms. Upah relocated to the USA for further studies where she earned a master’s in Public Administration (MPA). She is presently involved in working with the Deafblind community, a minority group within the Deaf community.
